From ancient Rome’s publication of official business, Acta Diurna, to the range of media we have today, journalism has had a significant impact in informing, persuading, and engaging its citizenry.
At times, it has been humanity’s worst enemy, instigating atrocities and division.
Despite the media - the fourth pillar of democracy - holding significant influence in our world, I believe its importance is not sufficiently emphasized in Japan, especially in education
What is just as disregarded, is the idea that democracy and media thrive under diverse perspectives and conflictual views.
The worst forms of violence and oppression have occurred under systems dependent on hegemonic views and opinions. It is essential that platforms exist for multifarious perspectives to be shared.
At Waseda Daily, we hope to empower diverse voices, ideas, and identities across campus. We strive to be an accessible platform where anyone with a voice can disseminate their ideas to the world.
About the logo
The central pillar of our logo symbolizes the media as the fourth pillar of democracy. Behind the pillar, the layered edges resemble origami paper, created by stacking multiple squares. This design represents the complexity and diversity of ideas coming together to form a unified whole.
